Victor Gelling, mittlerweile kein unbeschriebenes Blatt in der Kölner Improvisations- und Jazzszene, lädt an diesem Abend zu einem Feldexperiment der besonderen Art ein: Mithilfe eines Recherchestipendiums der Stadt Köln war es möglich, ein völlig neues Instrument, basierend auf dem mikrotonalen Instrumentarium des Amerikanischen Komponisten Harry Partch zu entwerfen. Die Electric Surrogate Kithara, eine elektrifizierte Version eines 14-Saitigen Instrumentes Partchs ist das Herzstück des Abends. Mithilfe des Kölner Saiteninstrumentenbauers Stefan Bosch wurde in monatelanger Arbeit ein Instrument geschaffen, in welches Victor mehrere Mikrocontroller und andere elektrische Spielereien ganz im Sinne der eigenen Klangwelt verbaut hat, um die mikrotonalen Ansätze von Harry Partch mit modernen Improvisationswelten zu verbinden.

Für ein erstes Präsentieren hat Victor dafür einige alte und neue Gesichter der Kölner Improvisationsszene eingeladen, um ein klassisches First Meeting (und nebenbei auch noch erstes Auftreten des neuen Instruments) zu veranstalten.

Zusammen mit Laura Totenhagen, Jordan White und Darius Heid auf der Bühne treffen hier verschiedenste Köpfe, ausgestattet mit sowohl akustischen, als auch elektronischen Klangsprachen aufeinander.

Victor Gelling, no stranger to the Cologne improvisation and jazz scene, invites you to a special kind of field experiment this evening: With the help of a research grant from the city of Cologne, it was possible to design a completely new instrument based on the microtonal instruments of the American composer Harry Partch. The Electric Surrogate Kithara, an electrified version of Partch’s 14-string instrument, is the centerpiece of the evening. With the help of Cologne stringed instrument maker Stefan Bosch, an instrument was created over months of work in which Victor installed several microcontrollers and other electrical gadgets entirely in the spirit of his own sound world in order to combine Harry Partch’s microtonal approaches with modern improvisational worlds.

For a first presentation, Victor has invited some old and new faces from the Cologne improvisation scene to organize a classic first meeting (and also the first appearance of the new instrument).

Together with Laura Totenhagen, Jordan White and Darius Heid on stage, a wide variety of minds, equipped with both acoustic and electronic sound languages, will come together.


NOTE: In 2024, the concerts at the LOFT will start round 8pm - the LOFT opens approx. 30min before the concerts begin.
